Hiya guys!

The two weeks here have been quite uneventful. I’ve worked in the main hospital last Wednesday, that was fun to do. There is a particularly violent pigeon in there, so replenishing his food is quite a challange. Almost every other bird we have at the moment is a pigeon. We’ve got a wee song thrush and some finches apart from them. There is one baby pigeon with a broken leg in there as well, and he’s not grumpy yet so changing his papers is fun to do. There is a baby wee hedgehog as well, and since he’s not prickly yet you can handle him without having to wrap twenty blankets around him.

On Thursday I went with some other people to release four cygnets in Irvine. After I caught them (which was no mere feat, since two of the cygnets can hardly be called cygnets anymore, swan would be a more accurate name), we gave them a ring on their leg with a serial on it. This so if it comes back, we still have the records of him.

I’m even getting over my fear of chickens! There was a hen in the hospital who is incredibly well-behaved, she’s wonderful. The other chickens in the enclosure keep making these “contented hen-sounds”, which is quite lovely. And they provide us with free eggs, that’s pretty amazing.

Unfortunatly, less fun things happen as well at a wildlife hospital. Our baby seal, Mack, was feeling very ill yesterday. He hadn’t been in the water and hadn’t eaten for the entire day. Every time he looks at you, he had a look in his eyes that mirrored his sadness. We did everything we could to help him, and luckily he has been eating again (the stench of half-eaten fish has never smelled so good). We’ll keep an eye on him, make sure he’s got all he needs.

The weather has been quite good. It’s chilly in the mornings, but only until about 10 ‘o clock. Then it starts to warm up, and as you’re working you’ll warm up on the job anyway. Sometimes the sun peeps through and then the surroundings are too lovely to describe. It’s like walking through a postcard on those moments.

And for the school stuff:
I have not run into any problems.
I'm getting on well with my portfolio, more and more sections are getting done every day.
As for my word list, it's extremely short this week:
Dolt

.. and that's it! I'm picking up on the accent pretty quickly, so all the words that seemed strange I now use as well.

That’s it for this week, and even though it’s not very eventful, I’m thorouly enjoying my stay here!

Cheers
